DeckLok To Release Deck Collapse Study

08/23/2006 - DeckLok Bracket Systems has just completed a comprehensive study on deck collapses in the United States. The study focuses on the occurrence and reporting of collapses from January 2000 to present. They have utilized online media as well as printed material to compile a thorough database of reported incidences from January 2000 to present. Here are a few noteworthy statistics from their study.

•There is a clearly defined "collapse season", which is from June to October. During this season, more than 70% of reported collapses occur

•More than 75% of the people who are on a deck when it collapses are injured or killed

•Since 2000, there have been 30 or more deaths as a direct result to a deck collapse, at an average of 5 deaths per year

This study is being presented in two phases. The first phase involves statistics on the number of collapses, the geographic regions in which they occurred, numbers of people involved and/or injured. The second phase focuses on the actual causes of collapse, and the various construction details of those decks that have gone down. The initial phase of this study is set to be published in the fall of 2006.
